Rav Kook's Lamentation in Jerusalem for our Yom Ha'atzmaut Program

For today's Yom Ha'atzmaut program, our students learned about Rav Avraham Yitzchak Kook’s little-known Hesped (eulogy) for Theodor Herzl through which he attempted to demonstrate, in a Dvar Torah elucidating the roles in our tradition of Mashi’ach Ben Yosef and Mashi’ach Ben David, that religious Zionists should look upon secular Zionism (and, of course, Zionists) as an indispensable ingredient working toward the ultimate redemption of the Jewish People.

  • You can read a translation of Rav Kook's Hesped here and read it in Hebrew here
  • Below view the presentation created about it by Rabbi Tzvi Pittinsky, our Director of Educational technology:

Here is a montage featuring video clips in which members of our faculty acted out scenarios based on the ideas of Rav Kook and a slideshow of the Yom Ha'atzmaut Chagiga and barbeque that followed.:

  1. I wish I could've been there. So much joy and pride in that building (and outside). Looks like a spectacular day.
